Change is definitely in the air for 2017 both for our country and our industry.  Most pundits believe these changes will be significant and that they will be pro-business in their impact.

As with any major shift in leadership and national priorities uncertainty is a component that cannot be ignored. The underlying message for the travel industry and for our specific business interests is that we must be even more vigilant of economic trends both large and small.

The only way we can do this effectively is to be more engaged with the people making these decisions and more informed about their potential impact on small business and on the economy in general. One example worth pointing to is travel to Cuba.  Will the current softening of restrictions continue or will they be slowed or reversed by the new administration?

Looking to the bigger picture, will 2017 see an improving economy an accompanying increase in business and personal travel?  In this regard, your association and your chapter will continue to provide a flow of detailed information pertaining to all facets of our industry.  Beyond regular communications both ASTA National and ASTA Mid-America will be hosting events with political and industry leaders to expand our knowledge and influence where it can count most for you and your business interests.

Although we have a solid list of events for 2017 including Trade Shows, National and International Gatherings as well as local and regional meetings.  I am predicting that there will be reasons for us to schedule additional events centered around change a major change impacting business operations.

ASTA Mid-America and its Board remains committed to bringing real value to you as a member and a colleague.

The board of the ASTA Mid-America Chapter will complete its term in office on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the National Convention in San Diego.

At that meeting new chapter structures and leadership teams will be presented to the membership.

Although at present we are not able to provide any details beyond 8/29/17 we will make ourselves available at the email addresses provided below.

As the players change I want to do a “shout out” to our website designer and manager, Debra Hawley.  Debra took over the ASTA Mid-America website in 2013 and quickly upgraded both the look and the capabilities of this important part of our communications package.  Over the last 4 years she has adjusted her schedule to make sure critical changes were made quickly to ensure that our message reached members and partners so that they could base their actions on accurate and current information.  I cannot overstate the board’s appreciation for the creativity and dedication she brings to her work product.  THANK YOU, Deb, you should be proud of what you have accomplished.

Best Regards,

Claudia
